Wyatt Sumner
Wyatt (Wesley?) Sumner was born on January 20, 1832 in Floyd County, VA. He married
Rachel Duncan,
of Virginia on March 15, 1866 in Floyd County, VA. They had the following
children:
Nancy
William (Willie)
Amanda
Wyatt Jr.
Lucy V.
Retrissa (?)
Joseph
John Floyd
*Wyatt served in the 54th Virginia Infantry, Company B, during the Civil War. He enlisted on
February 10, 1863, at Franklin, VA. He was listed as absent with wounds February 2, 1865 muster.
It is believed that he was wounded near New Hope Church, GA.
*Wyatt's brothers Wesley and Wiley were also in the same regiment. Wesley was taken POW at Marietta,
GA. and sent to Camp Douglas, ILL. He was discharged under oath on June 16, 1865. He was described
as having light hair, hazel eyes, height 5'3". Wiley died on June 20, 1862 of measles.
He was unmarried.
Wyatt Sumner died in 1937, aged 105. He is buried in MacDonald Cemetery, WVA.
